IMPOSING HINDI IN NON-HINDI SPEAKING STATES – A DANGEROUS MOVE!

IMPOSING HINDI IN NON-HINDI SPEAKING STATES – A DANGEROUS MOVE!

If you see the series of events in India of late, you would have observed the trend of imposing Hindi through all communications, documents, speeches, etc.

Earlier, the speeches in Parliament were made to be in Hindi.

Then, Hindi was imposed in the official communications between states.

Then, the BJP Govt sought the permission of the president for using Hindi in Airport announcements, press news and advertisements.

Then, it made Hindi as a compulsory subject in CBSE schools all over the country.

The government schemes are named in Hindi or Sanskrit only.

Now, the Modi Govt  has said that the Passports will be printed in Hindi also.
WHY WE OPPOSE IMPOSING HINDI IN ALL STATES AND DOCUMENTS?

Because, we care the unity and peace of India.

When the govt forgets to consider the negative impacts that can be created by imposing Hindi, it is our responsibility to remind the rulers.
IS INDIA A HINDI MAJORITY COUNTRY?

Sorry.  This is not true.  Only about half of the population speaks Hindi.

Only about 43% of Indians have Hindi as their first language.  About 12% of Indians have Hindi as second language.  This totals about 55%.  Another 5% of the people may know some Hindi to manage.

Other 45% of Indians speak other languages only.

In other words, about half of the population speaks Hindi and the remaining population speak other languages.

Bengali, Marathi and Telugu each are spoken by about 9% of the population (Totalling 27%).

Tamil is spoken by about 7% of the population.

Urdu is spoken by about 6% of the population.

Kannada and Gujarati each are spoken by about 5% of the population (Totalling 10%)

Odia and Malayalam are spoken by 3.7% & 3.4% of the population respectively.
THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT UNDERSTOOD THE GROUND REALITY

Mr.Modi might have successfully implemented Demonetisation of higher denomination notes.

He might have succeeded in opening more bank accounts (But, most of the accounts are remaining dormant).

He might have successfully made more than one crore Indians to give up the Gas subsidy.

The people happily accepted the pains involved in the above schemes considering the good intention behind those actions.

This might have given some strength for Mr.Modi  to think that his efforts to impose Hindi all over India will also be accepted by the people.

It will not happen.

Why?

Because, language is the integral part of every citizen’s day to day life.  The other language speakers will also feel their mother tongue comfortable similar to the Hindi speaking people who feel comfortable with Hindi.

They will not be ready to replace their own mother tongue with Hindi.

The Central government is thinking that Hindi can be successfully established all over India if they forcefully impose.

This will definitely trigger the anger of the non Hindi speaking people.

I AM NOT AGAINST HINDI AND I ALWAYS SUPPORT LEARNING IT.  BUT, I AM AGAINST THE WAY IN WHICH THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO IMPOSE HINDI.

THIS IS THE OLD FASHIONED WAY THAT WILL TRIGGER MANY AGITATIONS LIKE THE ONES THAT HAPPENED DECADES BEFORE IN TAMILNADU AND SOUTHERN STATES.

What is the use in printing Hindi in passports? How can an official in France read it? He is going to read English version only.

What is the use in speaking in Hindi in the parliament?  ONLY 50% OF MPs AND PEOPLE will understand that.

India is a country with multiple cultures, languages, religions, etc.

Every state has its own language, culture and religion.

Therefore, if there is any unwanted intrusion from outside in their following language, culture, religion, etc, they will naturally feel displeasure and agitate.

It is like intruding in their personal preferences.

If you try to forcefully change the religion of a person, won’t he feel hurt?

Similar hurt will be caused if the government imposes Hindi in non hindi speaking states.

THEN, HOW SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT ACT IN THIS MATTER?

There is no second thoughts in the fact that Hindi is spoken by more number of people compared to other languages.

Fine.  Let it be.

Why should others be forced to learn it?

Are they dieing now without Hindi?

They are enjoying so many literatures, songs, movies, day to day affairs with their own language.

IF THEY FEEL THAT THEY NEED HINDI, THEY ARE GOING TO LEARN IT WITHIN A MONTH OR TWO.

WHY SHOULD YOU FORCE HINDI ON ORDINARY CITIZENS OF NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES?

The best process to grow Hindi GRADUALLY without hurting the sentiments of other people is MAKING HINDI AVAILABLE AS AN OPTIONAL  LANGUAGE TO LEARN IN ALL STATES, NOT AS A COMPULSORY LANGUAGE.

THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT MAY GIVE WIDE PUBLICITY TO THE PEOPLE THROUGH MEDIA PERIODICALLY TO LEARN HINDI.

Instead of doing so, if you print the documents in Hindi in non hindi speaking states also, it will be seen as forcible imposition.

NOTHING IN HISTORY HAS BEEN ACHIEVED IN THE HISTORY BY THE WAY OF FORCE.

Any transformation should be natural. Just make the facilities available to learn Hindi all over India and give publicity for that.

This is enough.  If anyone likes to learn Hindi, let him use that facility.

Also make free online courses available for learning Hindi.  Interested persons can use that.

Let the Malayalees enjoy their mother tongue Malayalam.

Let the Telugu people enjoy their mother tongue Telugu.

Let Tamil and Kannada people enjoy their mother tongue Tamil and Kannada.

If they have the need to learn Hindi let them learn it.

Till that, let all the Indian languages be the official languages.

The schedule 8 of the Constitution of India clearly states that all languages in India should be announced as official languages.

Therefore, Let English be our linking language.

Remember, only because English is widespread in India, our students are getting overseas jobs and are living all over the world.

Let every state has its own identity with its own language, culture, etc. Let English be the linking language.

Mean time advertise from time to time about the facilities available to learn Hindi.

If anyone likes to go to a hindi speaking state for job, let him learn it.

Or, have Hindi as an optional subject.  If needed the students will choose to read Hindi.

AGAIN I REMIND THE GOVERNMENT:

PLEASE DO NOT TRIGGER A NEW PROBLEM IN OUR COUNTRY.  THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES TO BE TAKEN CARE IN INDIA.

CONCENTRATE IN THEM.

HINDI WILL BE LEARNT BY ANYONE IF HE NEEDS IT.

WHO WILL ENCOURAGE HINDI SPEAKING STATES TO LEARN TAMIL, TELUGU, KANNADA, MALAYALAM, ETC?

WHY DON’T YOU DO THAT?

Why this much of importance only for Hindi?

This is a dangerous move.  Please stop this attempt with this.

All the good image earned by Mr Modi’s government may be lost if the government proceeds with imposing Hindi on non hindi speaking people.
PEOPLE's LOVE CAN NOT BE WON BY IMPOSING SOMETHING ON THEM! DO NOT TOUCH THE SENTIMENTS AND RIGHTS OF CHOICE OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS MULTIFACETED COUNTRY!

Hope the government will review its stand.
