HOW INDIAN PRESIDENT IS ELECTED? COMPLETE CALCULATIONS! MUST READ!

Indian President can not be compared to the American President.

The American President is the topmost authority and he has his own decision making power.

The Indian President is the topmost constitutional  authority but, he functions based on the advice of the parliament and the central ministry.

Whenever a constitutional crisis such as non availability of the majority support for the government or for the parties after the elections, defections of MPs, etc happens, the actual power of the Indian president is required.

The American President is directly elected by the people, whereas, the Indian president is elected by the Members of Parliaments (MPs) and Members of Legislature Asssemblies (MLAs) of all the states and Union Territories of India.

HOW INDIAN PRESIDENT IS ELECTED?

(1) The office term of the Indian President is Five Years.

(2) In the general elections for MPs and MLAs, every vote has the value of one.

Whereas, in the Presidential election, the vote value of the MPs and MLAs are different.

Even in the case of MLAs the value differs from one state and the another.

(3) First see these data:

(i) The number of MPs in India:  776 (Lok Sabha + Rajya Sabha);

(ii) The number of MLAs from all the states and Union Territories of India:  4120 ;

(iii) Therefore, the number of Voters who are going to vote in the president election:  4896.

HOW THE VALUE OF EVERY VOTE OF AN MLA IS CALCULATED FOR EVERY STATE?

Multiply the number of MLAs in a state by 1000. Divide the population of that state by that multiplied value.  This is the value of the vote of every MLA of that state.

For example, if a state has 200 MLAs and population of 4 crores, then, the value of every vote of an MLA in that state will be:

200 x 1000 = 2,00,000.

Divide 4 crores by two lakh.

You get 200.  This is the value of the vote of every MLA in that state.  Same applies for Union territories also.

Thus, the total value of the votes of ALL the MLAs in ALL the states in India is:  5,49,495.

HOW THE VALUE OF EVERY VOTE OF AN MP (MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT) IS CALCULATED?

Divide the total value of the votes of ALL the MLAs in ALL the states in India, by the total number of MPs in the Parliament (Loksabha + Rajyasabha).

Thus, the total value of the votes of ALL the MLAs in ALL the states in India is:  5,49,495.

The total number of MPs in the Parliament (Loksabha + Rajyasabha) is: 776.

Now,  divide 5,49,495 by 776.

HOW THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE VOTES ALL THE MPs  IS CALCULATED?

By multiplying the total number of MPs in the Parliament (Loksabha + Rajyasabha)  (ie, 776) BY the value of every vote of an MP (ie, 708).

776 x 708 = 5,49,408.

HOW THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES IN THE PRESIDENT ELECTION IS CALCULATED?

By adding the total votes of all the MLAs of ALL the states  AND the total value of the votes of all the MPs.

Thus,  5,49,495 + 5,49,408 = 10,98,903.

This is the total value of all the votes in a President election.

Are you clear now?

WHO HAS THE CHANCES TO WIN IN THE PRESIDENT ELECTION OF 2017?

No doubt,  BJP (NDA) nominated candidate Ram Nath Kovind has a clear chance to win this President election.

How?

BJP alliance already has 48.9% of vote share and it is short by just 1.1% to get 50% votes.  To win, it will need one vote more.

But, there are many parties that have assured or expected to support BJP Candidate.

Since AIADMK of Tamilnadu has split in to two (it seems three) factions, and all the three have assured support to the BJP candidate, BJP presidential candidate gets 5.39% more votes.  This itself will be sufficient for the BJP candidate to win.

However, BJP candidate seems to have the support of many more parties:

TRS (Telangana Rashtriya Samidhi) has 2% of votes.

Biju janatha Dal has 2.99% of votes.

YSR Congress has 1.53% of votes.

UJD (United Janatha Dal) has 1.91% of votes.

All these support itself will account for 64.44% of votes for the BJP Candidate.

Even if any one or two parties support for Opposition candidate Meira Kumar, it is not going to affect the election of BJP dominated NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind.

More than 60% of the votes are there for Ram Nath Kovind.  Therefore, his election has been almost confirmed.

ANOTHER FACE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION:

The painful thing is that caste is used in promoting the candidate for the President of this big democracy.

Both the sides try to show that they are on the side of Dalits and they are not the parties for upper classes alone.

Anyone from any community can become the president of this country.  But, the course of events show that the caste is the major consideration in selecting the presidential candidate and even in all other elections in India.

This trend should be changed.  Consideration of caste in all the elections (Parliament, Legislature Assemblies and president)  even after 70 years of independence is the shame for  this country.

This shows that the political parties are not really interested in eradicating caste system from this country.  Because, existence of caste based considerations are helpful for their political calculations.

Anyway, Good Luck for the forthcoming president of this largest democracy of this world.
